Sail Tension
Having 2 Funs, (one for sunday best) my old Fun has a soft / loose sail from many hours of flying, uv exposure and salt air, however, it is a dream to "crank around" on the dunes with some turns seemingly on a wing tip.
I decided to clean up my old Fun with some new wires and an over due wash of the sail, this I did using a pressure machine which really gets out those stubborn marks. It was an overcast day and before the sail could dry I decided (spur of the moment) to wipe it over with some "Floor Shine" (looks like milk), the solution was well "keyed" on a damp sail and dried with amazing results, the sail recovered its "crispness" with a slight sheen, I couldn't wait to try it. My 1st flight was at Fenchmans with a lot of west in it so the flight plan was "turn right and get on the dunes"
Having arrived at the dunes I found the glider was not so responsive in turns and almost felt reluctant to my commands, I flew for some 15-20 mins which included a beach landing and a nervous take off from the dunes, this felt like a "new" glider which I didn't like so I packed up and went home. The next day I gave it another water pressure wash but couldn't retrieve that soft ragged out feel, I hope it comes back soon as "cranking" it around on the dunes is what I like best. oops, gotta go, I think its on!

Where is that site?
Interesting idea on giving an old sail some crispy ness again! be interesting to see how long it lasts for those that DO want it to stay, maybe on a hi po wing?
You use a do it yourself carwash to clean it? Maybe try the wax coat next time Smile Might stop it flying so well in the wet.
Look at Alans reply, he's on the money, the site used to have a take off but it has overgrown over the last few years, the only way to get on it now is to fly some "extreme" cliffs (with nowhere to bomb out) and is not recommended unless you have floatation gear and a hook knife, also, be not concerned if you lose your glider. I have a contact in Frankston who flys a Malibu and has flown 13th beach with me, he also flys Sunnyside quite a bit which works well this time of the year. Flights down to Mornington are common, my mission is to fly to Frankston but this requires some favourable wind shifts.
Lets go, all I need is some floatation gear.
Yeah Im keen to give sunnyside a fly, everywhere in the bay for that matter! Ill have to give him a call next time im down?, Flat out with work this trip, coming back to Syd on Sundays. I hope the suns comes back out for our return!
